Popular 5fm DJ Koula, and her team of Comrades Marathon runners, raised an awesome R76 430 in May for the David Rattray Foundation – and just over R78 000 altogether including what was raised in April.

It was Koula's third Comrades and she finished in emphatic style in a time of 10hr45:07. Her team included first-time runners Joff Gouveris and Chris Ferreira – who took up the challenge in memory of Tina Gouveris, Joff's sister, who died last year at the age of 30 as a result of a blood disorder called Sickle-Cell Thalassemia. Another first-time runner, Darryl Browne of Durban, ran for his mother who also passed away last year.

Completing the team were father and twin son combo – Ryan, Brenton and Byron Conway – Rachel Manyathi, Stefan Minnaar and Likesto Kunyane.

The proceeds from this magnificent effort will help further the cause of reconciliation between the peoples of South Africa and help support upliftment projects in the areas of education and health in Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
